FAIRFAX BOARD APPROVES METROWESTConstruction to Begin in 2007

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved March 27, 2006 the specific zoning changes required for MetroWest’s transit-oriented, mixed use development at the Vienna Metro Station. The approval authorizes up to 2,248 housing units, up to 300,000 square feet of office space and up to 190,000 square feet of retail space focused on resident services.

Pulte in turn agreed to an ambitious set of proffers that will include affordable dwelling units and senior housing, a $6 million community building, a new interface with the Vienna-Fairfax-GMU Metro Station and transportation improvements. See Proffer Package for MetroWest

Pulte Homes will submit its first site plan permit applications to the county in May 2006 and begin site work, engineering and grading work early in 2007. The first townhouse and condominium units could be ready for occupancy by the middle of 2008.

"This proposal is demonstrably better, thanks to citizen efforts.” Providence District Planning Commissioner Kenneth Lawrence applauded citizen input as Fairfax County Planning Commission approved zoning plans for MetroWest.  Fairfax supervisors will consider the plans March 27.  More...
